Frequently asked questions

Everything about buying, installing and using a travel eSIM from eSIM.Now — from checking your phone to what happens when the data runs out.

eSIM basics

An eSIM is a SIM card that is built into your phone instead of slotted into it. You download a profile — for a travel eSIM, by scanning a QR code — and the phone treats it exactly like a physical SIM.

There is no plastic card to buy at the airport, swap in, or lose. A phone can hold several eSIM profiles at once, so your home SIM stays in place and the travel eSIM sits next to it for data.

No. You give an email address at checkout; the eSIM and a permanent link to its QR code are sent there. You can sign in later with that address to see your orders, but nothing requires you to.

Yes. Our eSIMs are data-only. Your primary SIM stays active for calls and texts and the eSIM carries the data, so you keep your number and skip the roaming charge.

Yes — Wi-Fi or your home data, to download the profile. Install it before you fly; it costs nothing until it connects to a network at your destination.

Device compatibility

iPhone XS, XR and every later model; Google Pixel 3 and later; most Samsung Galaxy S, Z and recent A-series phones; and many others. Phones sold in mainland China often ship without eSIM, so check your specific model.

On an iPhone, open Settings › General › About and look for an EID line. On Android, open Settings › Network & internet › SIMs and look for an option to add or download an eSIM. If you can dial *#06# and see an EID, the phone has an eSIM.

Yes. A carrier-locked phone will not accept a SIM from anyone else, eSIM included. If the phone came from a carrier on a contract, ask them to confirm it is unlocked before you buy.

On a cellular iPad or Android tablet with eSIM, yes. Smartwatches usually share a plan with the paired phone rather than holding their own, so they are not a good match for a travel eSIM.

Buying & activation

Pick a destination, choose the data and the number of days, and pay. The order page shows the QR code as soon as the payment clears — usually within a few seconds — and the same page is emailed to you.

Scan the QR code with the phone's camera, or add it from Settings › Cellular (iPhone) or Settings › Network & internet › SIMs (Android). Turn the line on and enable data roaming for it when you arrive. The install guide walks through every step.

For most plans, when the eSIM first connects to a network at the destination — not when you buy or install it. The plan page says which rule applies before you pay.

Visa, Mastercard, American Express and other major cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay and PayPal. Prices are in US dollars and the exact options are shown at checkout.

If a plan cannot be issued, the refund happens automatically. An eSIM that has been issued but never installed can be refunded within the window in our Terms of Service. Once a profile is installed or used, it cannot be taken back.

Usage & coverage

Local plans cover one country; regional bundles cover a whole area, such as Europe or Southeast Asia; global plans cover most of the world. Every plan lists its countries and the networks it uses before you buy.

As fast as the local network — 4G/LTE almost everywhere and 5G where the network and your phone both support it. Some plans slow down after a fair-use amount, and the plan page says so.

On most plans, yes: share the connection with a laptop or a travelling companion. Any plan that restricts tethering says so in its details.

The eSIM stops carrying data; your home SIM is unaffected. Buy another plan for the same destination — you do not need to delete the first one, and the new QR code installs alongside it.

Not on the eSIM itself; it is data-only. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram and similar apps work as normal, and your primary SIM still handles regular calls and texts.

No. An expired profile uses no data and costs nothing. Delete it from Settings when you like, or keep it in case you go back.

Billing & support

On the order page, which we emailed to you as a permanent link, and under "My orders" once you sign in with the email you used at checkout. You do not need a password: a code is sent to that address.

Check that the eSIM line is turned on, that data roaming is enabled for that line, and that it is selected for mobile data. Select a supported network manually if the phone has not attached after a minute, then restart. If it still shows no service, write to us with the order number.

Buy another plan for the same destination from the order page or the store. Each purchase is a fresh eSIM with its own QR code.

Email us at supper@eSIM.Now with your order number and, if the eSIM is not working, a screenshot of the phone's cellular settings. That is what lets us look at the actual profile rather than guess.
